This is an exceptional Y2K Valentino Garavani dress, probably Cruise Collection 2000, when the eponymous designer himself was the creative director. It is a lavish concoction of cerise pink ribbon work and has an asymmetric left hand silk chiffon shoulder strap, and a left hand side zip closure, carefully concealed and topped off with a hook and eye. The outer tulle fabric comprises of all-over silk satin starflower appliqués in graduating shades of pink, with hundreds of hand-placed glass bead pistils. There are two flowing side sashes of soft-fold waves of silk georgette which envelope the dress and can also be carried on the arms. Cerise georgette also makes up the dual-layered underlay.
It is a truly spectacular, ethereal piece and the perfect showstopper for a special event. In excellent vintage condition, gently worn with no issues having been made with great skill in Italy. It would best fit up to a UK 8, or US 4, with a small bust.
